FASHIONED BY GOD
When I was 18 years old I left home and moved to a small town north of Dallas to live with one of my sisters. It was 2 weeks after my high school graduation. My future did not seem bright and my hope was bleak.
Before arriving in this new town, my determined sister managed to get me a job at a boutique that she frequently shopped at. Now, you know it's a small town when the store owner hires you without meeting you or seeing you!
It seemed quite surreal that someone who did not have much of a wardrobe was going to work in a ladies boutique stock full of pretty material & patterns. Fears and inadequacies occupied my thoughts and tortured me with unworthiness. But God had a plan.
That was twenty eight years ago and was just the beginning of the amazing makeover the Lord did in my life.
Are you ready for a makeover that is better than Hoda & Kathie Lee's Ambush Makeovers?
Today I want to share with you some Fun Fashion Tips and encourage you with 6 Truths about being Fashioned By God.
FUN FASHION TIPS
Proverbs 31:25
She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
1. The easiest and least expensive way to brighten up or update your wardrobe is with accessories.
You can transform an old outfit and make it new again by changing out the buttons...or adding an amazing conversation piece like a fun Ring, Necklace, or Bracelet!
2. To make a beaded necklace longer attach a chain bracelet or another beaded item to extend it.
You can also add a flower pin for another added touch!
3. What is Hot & New This Spring and Summer? Bright Colors and Pastel Colors. Bold & Bright Accessories. Pretty Peplum Skirts and Dresses. Oxford Shoes and Wedges. So much fun and you can find them in every price range!
4. I suggest you sign up to be on the email distribution of your favorite store. You will get coupons and alerts letting you know of special sales. Worth it!
5. One of my favorite storage tips...I store my earrings or rings in a plastic compartment bin that is normally used to organize my beads. It keeps it organized and ready when I need to travel!
What is Fashion? It is a prevailing custom or style. A term that applies to any way of dressing, behaving, writing or performing.
What is Style?
A distinctive manner of expression often implies a certain display of fashion.
And what is Facade ~ a superficial appearance or illusion of something. In other words - what not to wear!
1. Renew Your Mind
Media beauty is a facade - they have make up artist and graphic people to touch them up.
Check your perception and do not let your mind be corrupted and tricked by the worlds methods.
Romans 12:2 ~ Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
1 Peter 1:14 ~ As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance.
2. Wear The Right ShoesWear the shoes God created just for you to prevent unnecessary harm and to protect your feet.Galatians 5:16 ~ So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
3. Honor God With Your Body
If you have to ask "should I wear this?", then you probably shouldn't.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV ~ Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. (God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body. The Message Bible )
4. Look In The MirrorThe Word of God is the only mirror that matters. It reveals your authentic beauty and guides your every step.
Psalm 119:105 ~ Thy word is lamp unto my feet and light unto my path.2 Corinthians 4:18 ~ So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
5. Change Your ClothesBefore we clothe ourselves in our new garments we must remove our old ones.
Clothe Yourself In Humility:
1 Peter 5:5 ~ All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.
Clothe Yourself In Kindness:
Colossians 3:12 ~ Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Clothe Yourself In Love & Patience:Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (Remember this scripture when you go shopping with others! ;) )
6. Know The Truth & Wear It WellDon't exchange the Truth for a lie.2 Corinthians5:17 ~ Because of this decision we don't evaluate people by what they have or how they look. We looked at the Messiah that way once and got it all wrong, as you know. We certainly don't look at him that way anymore. Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life begins!
A God Fashioned Life is transformed.
What once was dull and dead is made bright and alive!
Whoever has been tortured and left for ruin is repaired and made new!
The life that was shaken and wounded is held and healed!
